The White House attempted to turn one of President Donald Trump's awkward moments into a viral meme on Wednesday, but the effort was met with widespread criticism on social media.
Trump's Late Arrival at G7
Earlier in the day, Trump arrived nearly an hour late to a key G7 meeting in France, where most other world leaders were already assembled. He initially walked to the wrong side of the table and had to circle back to find his spot. About halfway there, at the head of the table, he paused and turned to the other leaders, announcing, “I’m the boss.” Some laughter followed, and Trump continued to his seat, smiling at other leaders as he approached.
White House Meme Attempt
The White House social media team created at least three posts attempting to turn the “boss” moment into a meme, including one that repeated the phrase in an hourlong loop. However, critics quickly pushed back on X, formerly Twitter.
Reactions from Critics
- Adam Kinzinger called the posts “pathetic losers.”
- Another user described the account as “cringe.”
- Figgy The Best Cat noted, “Anyone who needs to say 'I'M THE BOSS' is no Boss.”
- Calvin Freiburger labeled it “the most juvenile and unprofessional White House in history.”

- Wayne Waldrop stated, “Real bosses don’t need to remind everyone that they are the boss.”

- Michael Bennett added, “If you have to say ‘I’m the boss’ out loud over and over, you’re probably proving you’re not actually in control.”

- The Feng Hunter suggested the president has “fully lost his mind.”

The backlash highlights the difficulty the administration faces in controlling the narrative around Trump's public appearances.
