Two individuals are in custody, and authorities are searching for a third suspect following a series of at least 10 random weekend shootings in Austin, Texas. The incidents, which occurred Saturday night and Sunday morning, included two attacks at fire stations and left four people injured, according to city officials.
Shelter-in-Place Order
The city initially ordered residents in a large portion of southern Austin to shelter in place on Sunday as the search intensified. After two suspects were taken into custody, the Austin Police Department announced on social media platform X that the order had been lifted.
Details of the Shootings
Police Chief Lisa Davis reported that the shootings resulted in one person suffering serious injuries and three others sustaining minor wounds. Two of the shootings specifically targeted fire stations.
Chief Davis noted that the suspects appeared to be stealing vehicles as they moved through the city. “We don’t have any specific motive that has been identified. In fact, these actions appear to be random,” said Mayor Kirk Watson. “It appears that as part of this, people are changing vehicles.”
Vehicle Thefts
According to Davis, the suspects used at least four different vehicles during the crime spree. The investigation is ongoing, and police are actively seeking the third suspect.
