California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has found an unexpected admirer in Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News host turned vocal critic of President Donald Trump. During Friday's episode of 'The Tucker Carlson Show,' Carlson engaged in a lengthy discussion with independent political commentator Jimmy Dore, where both men expressed admiration for the Democratic governor.
Carlson and Dore Praise Newsom
Dore described Newsom as 'fantastic' and 'great,' adding that the governor 'cares about the people.' He quipped that Newsom would 'make the country look as pretty as his hair,' drawing an amused reaction from Carlson. Carlson then suggested that 'it feels like [Newsom's] the nominee,' referencing the 2028 presidential election. Although Newsom has not officially declared a candidacy, he is widely considered a top contender and has acknowledged he is actively considering a White House bid.
Dore compared Newsom to former President Barack Obama, noting that both Democrats have the ability to make people 'feel better' with their empowering speeches. However, Dore also admitted that he believes Newsom is 'full of it,' to which Carlson readily agreed. Despite this criticism, Carlson praised Newsom as 'fun to talk to' and 'very charming,' calling him 'unbelievable.'
Trump's Recent Attacks on Carlson
Last week, President Donald Trump mocked Carlson and other right-wing critics with an AI-generated post on Truth Social. The image featured Carlson, former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), commentator Candace Owens, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) crowded in an SUV with the U.S. Capitol in the background, captioned 'Get in loser, we're going losing.'
In April, Trump told the New York Post that Carlson is 'a low-IQ person,' days after Carlson criticized Trump for posting an AI-generated image of himself resembling Jesus Christ. Carlson called the post 'mockery' and accused Trump of 'making fun of Christianity.'
