Trump's Defensive Post-SOTU Outburst Takes Aim at Political and Celebrity Critics
Former President Donald Trump concluded his second-term State of the Union address with a speech filled with self-congratulatory remarks and bold claims about his administration's achievements. However, the event's aftermath revealed a notably defensive tone from the ex-president, as he directed a heated Truth Social post toward his detractors on Wednesday afternoon.
Scathing Social Media Attack Proposes Deportation for Foes
In a testy online tirade, Trump singled out Democratic Representatives Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, alongside Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro. The former commander-in-chief suggested deporting all three for their opposition to him, despite the fact that Omar is a naturalized U.S. citizen from Somalia and Tlaib was born in Detroit, Michigan.
"When you watch Low IQ Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, as they screamed uncontrollably last night at the very elegant State of the Union, such an important and beautiful event, they had the bulging, bloodshot eyes of crazy people, LUNATICS, mentally deranged and sick who, frankly, look like they should be institutionalized," Trump wrote, referencing the lawmakers' early exit from the Capitol after shouting during his speech.
He continued, "When people can behave like that, and knowing that they are Crooked and Corrupt Politicians, so bad for our Country, we should send them back from where they came — as fast as possible. They can only damage the United States of America, they can do nothing to help it."
Broadside Extends to Actor Robert De Niro and Rosie O'Donnell
Trump also targeted American-born actor Robert De Niro, who had delivered a counter-address titled "State of the Swamp" at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday night. De Niro described Trump as "failing, flailing and desperate" during his rival event.
"They should actually get on a boat with Trump Deranged Robert De Niro, another sick and demented person with, I believe, an extremely Low IQ, who has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying — some of which is seriously CRIMINAL!" the former president raged in his post.
He further compared De Niro to his longtime nemesis, comedian Rosie O'Donnell, who recently moved to Ireland. "When I watched him break down in tears last night, much like a child would do, I realized that he may be even sicker than Crazy Rosie O'Donnell, who is right now in Ireland trying to figure out how to come back into our beautiful United States," Trump added. "The only difference between De Niro and Rosie is that she is probably somewhat smarter than him, which isn't saying much."
Context of the Confrontation During the State of the Union
The confrontation stemmed from Omar and Tlaib's vocal protests during Trump's Tuesday night speech. As the former president discussed sanctuary cities, both lawmakers shouted, "You have killed Americans," referencing two U.S. citizens shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last month.
Trump concluded his fiery post by asserting, "The good news is that America is now Bigger, Better, Richer, and Stronger than ever before, and it's driving them absolutely crazy!" This outburst highlights the ongoing tensions between Trump and his critics, marking a volatile post-State of the Union period characterized by personal attacks and escalating rhetoric.
