President Donald Trump gave his Truth Social followers a glimpse into the possible future of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., but he could not seem to do it without mentioning former President Barack Obama.
At 9:20 a.m. Saturday, Trump posted two images of the reflecting pool side by side. The first image shows the pool with dull-colored water covered in algae. That image is labeled “Hussein Obama,” a nod to the former president’s middle name, often invoked by his opponents to suggest, falsely, that he is a Muslim.
The second image is identical, with the same cloud positions in the sky and ducks on the water, except the water color has been altered to a more vibrant blue and no algae is visible. That image is labeled “Trump.”
Trump announced Thursday that he was having the reflecting pool renovated, including coating its surface in “American flag blue” and repairing leaks. Workers began to coat the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in what Trump called “American flag blue” on Friday.
“I have a guy who’s unbelievable at doing swimming pools up the road,” Trump said, estimating the project would cost $1.5 to $2 million. His Saturday morning post appeared to reference pool renovations undertaken during Obama’s second term, which led to major algae issues at the historic landmark.
