Trump Demands Israel, Iran Ceasefire Amid Escalating Attacks

U.S. President Donald Trump has demanded that Iran and Israel “immediately stop shooting” after both countries exchanged attacks since implementing a fragile ceasefire. Early Monday morning, the Israeli military said it attacked military targets in western and central Iran. The attacks come hours after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps took responsibility for launching ballistic missile fire at the Ramat David Airbase in northern Israel.

Strait of Hormuz to Reopen with Transit Fee

The Strait of Hormuz will reportedly open with new conditions set by Iran and Oman, which includes a transit fee, says Iran’s ambassador to Moscow. “Of course, this strait will be open, but with new conditions to be determined by the Iranian and Omani authorities,” ambassador Kazem Jalali told Russian newspaper Izvestia, per The Guardian. “We understand that Iran and Oman provide certain services related to this strait. And fees will be charged for those services.”

Hezbollah Fires Rockets at Israeli Soldiers

Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah said it fired a rocket barrage at a group of Israeli army vehicles and soldiers in southern Lebanon early Monday morning. The group claimed it targeted a “gathering” of military personnel on the outskirts of Beit Yahoun in response to Israel’s attacks on villages in southern Lebanon, BBC News reported. Israel has yet to comment on the attack. Its military is conducting ground attacks on southern Lebanon in an attempt to stop Hezbollah from attacking northern Israel.

Trump Urges Both Sides to ‘Stop Shooting’

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social early Monday to demand that Iran and Israel “must immediately stop shooting” after the two countries traded strikes for the first time since a fragile ceasefire had been reached. On Monday, the Israeli military said it struck military targets in western and central Iran. The strikes came hours after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility on an attack on the Ramat David Airbase in northern Israel, USA Today reported. “Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting,'” Trump said in one post.

In a follow-up post, Trump said both Israel and Iran are looking to implement an “immediate ceasefire,” while noting the U.S. naval blockade will remain in place until a deal is reached. “Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE!” wrote Trump. “Final negotiations on ‘Peace’ are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way. The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a ‘Final Deal’ is reached. Things should move quickly.”
