Trump Cancels Freedom 250 Concerts, Plans 'Rally to End All Rallies'
Trump Cancels Freedom 250 Concerts for 'Rally to End All Rallies'

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday evening via social media that the planned concert series for America's 250th birthday celebration, known as the Great American State Fair, would be replaced by what he described as the 'greatest rally ever.' The event, originally scheduled for late June and early July, has been transformed into a political rally, marking a significant shift from its initial non-partisan intentions.

Trump's Announcement

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, 'We don't want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep, we've told them all to stay home.' He emphasized that the new event would feature 'a few speakers, and the Greatest Music ever played,' including country singer Lee Greenwood performing 'God Bless the USA,' a staple at Trump's rallies. The president also promised appearances by tenor Christopher Macchio, U.S. military bands, and a personal appearance by Trump himself.

Performers Back Out

The original concert series, organized by Freedom 250—a Trump-backed public-private entity—quickly lost most of its performers after concerns arose about the event's partisan nature. Within days of the lineup announcement, six of the nine performers—Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Morris Day and the Time, Young MC, the Commodores, and Milli Vanilli—withdrew. Only Vanilla Ice, C+C Music Factory's Freedom Williams, and Flo Rida remained, though Flo Rida's participation was uncertain.

Vanilla Ice, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, defended his decision to perform, telling CBS News, 'It's simple as a pimple for me... It's the birthday of America. Two hundred and fifty years. It's not anything to do with politics.' Freedom Williams responded to critics with a fiery social media rant, stating he would perform regardless of political backlash. Flo Rida's chatbot, FloGPT, indicated no confirmed performance.

Shift to a Rally

Trump's decision to pivot to a rally follows earlier suggestions that the event could become a MAGA rally. The new plans include Lee Greenwood, military bands, and 'all of your favorite Hits,' with Trump himself as a featured speaker. The rally is expected to take place on the National Mall, replacing the canceled concerts.

The cancellation marks a dramatic end to a controversy-plagued event, with Trump framing the rally as a celebration of America's 250th birthday without the 'talentless' performers. The event is now set to be a highly partisan gathering, reflecting the deepening political divisions in the country.
