Trump Blasts 'Disloyal' Sen. Cassidy, Backs Letlow in Louisiana Primary
Trump Attacks Cassidy, Endorses Letlow in Louisiana Primary

President Donald Trump unleashed a harsh critique of incumbent Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) on Saturday, reaffirming his endorsement of Cassidy's challenger, Rep. Julia Letlow (R-La.), in the Louisiana Senate primary.

Trump's Truth Social Post

On his social media platform, Trump wrote, 'Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana is a disloyal disaster.' He accused Cassidy of basing his past Senate campaign on loyalty to Trump, only to vote for impeachment after winning office. Trump labeled the impeachment effort as 'total bullshit.'

Cassidy was among a handful of Republican senators who voted to convict Trump in his 2021 impeachment trial. Since then, Trump has consistently criticized Cassidy for what he sees as betrayal.

Trump's Strong Words

In his post, Trump called Cassidy a 'sleazebag' and 'a terrible guy' who is 'BAD FOR LOUISIANA.' He predicted Cassidy would get 'CLOBBERED' in the election by 'two great people.'

In Saturday's primary, Cassidy faces Trump-endorsed Letlow and former Rep. John Fleming (R-La.). Polling indicates Fleming leads the field. If no candidate secures 50% of the vote, the top two will proceed to a runoff.

Trump's Endorsement

Trump urged Letlow to run against Cassidy in January and maintained strong support for her. He wrote, 'VOTE TODAY FOR JULIA L.,' describing her as 'a winner who will NEVER let you down.'
