The murder of a Toronto police officer did not occur in isolation; it is the culmination of escalating crime and global terror infiltrating the city. Councillor Mike Colle stated, "These are paid, foreign elements attacking our city, causing death to a police officer and beyond random shootings at schools and synagogues." He described the violence as part of an internationally conspired assault on Toronto, particularly targeting the Jewish community.
Rising Violence Since October 2023
Colle noted that the violence has been festering since the Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. He and fellow councillor James Pasternak have warned of connections to Iran and local agents spreading hate. Protests following the massacre of 1,200 people in Israel led to anti-Jewish rhetoric, shootings at Jewish schools and synagogues, vandalism of businesses, and gunfire at the U.S. consulate.
Two Officers Killed in Two Days
On Tuesday, OPP Const. Tarun Bali was killed near Hearst, Ontario, while deploying a spike belt. Early Thursday, Const. Marc Pinizzotto, a 43-year-old Emergency Task Force officer and 18-year veteran, was fatally shot during a search warrant execution in North York. The warrant was linked to multiple shootings, including the attack on the U.S. consulate on University Avenue, as confirmed by Police Chief Myron Demkiw.
U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra acknowledged the connection at a trade conference. The alleged shooter, Nicholas Bennett, 19, was shot multiple times and faces first-degree murder charges. A second suspect, Zara Jabbi, 19, remains at large.
Terror, Not Protest
Colle emphasized that this violence is not harmless protest but terror, threatening American and Jewish Canadian lives. An Iraqi terrorist with ties to Iran’s proxy agents revealed that Iran was behind the synagogue and consulate shootings. The U.S. Justice Department identified Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi as an operative of Kata’ib Hizballah and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, involved in nearly 20 attacks since Feb. 28.
At least four GTA synagogues have been targeted, Jewish citizens hit with gel pellets, and Jewish schools shot at. The Toronto Police Services Board has called for an independent investigation into potential antisemitism within the force.
This Canadian crisis has been brewing for years, and now a dedicated officer has paid the ultimate price.
