Surrey Police Release Mug Shot of Extortion Suspect

Police in Surrey, British Columbia, have released the identity and photograph of a suspect linked to the ongoing extortion crisis in the region, hoping to encourage more individuals to come forward with information.

Prabhjot Singh, 20, was identified earlier this year by the Surrey Police Service (SPS) during an investigation into a series of extortion-related shootings and threats reported across the area. The foreign national was subsequently arrested by SPS, and details of his whereabouts and involvement were shared with the Canada Border Services Agency. Singh was later deported from Canada.

Investigators are now sharing his photo and appealing to anyone who knew Singh or recognizes him to provide information about his activities while he was in the country. “SPS continues to work with our law enforcement partners with the shared objective of tackling the interjurisdictional and national components of extortion,” said SPS Chief Const. Norm Lipinski in a statement. “We remain steadfastly committed to our policing colleagues and to our community in combating the extortion crisis.”

Police are particularly interested in speaking with witnesses, victims, or past associates of Singh who can shed light on his activities, where he spent his time, and any other involvement he may have had. In a statement, Surrey Police noted that photos would be “considered for release on a case-by-case basis” and only if legally necessary to advance an investigation.

Since the start of 2026, Surrey police have reported 87 extortion cases, 15 of which involved shootings and two arsons, affecting 46 victims. Of those, 25 were repeat victims who had been targeted previously. Last fall, the city of Surrey established a $250,000 fund to reward individuals providing credible information leading to a conviction.

Anyone with information about Singh can contact the SPS non-emergency number at 604-599-0502, the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or solvecrime.ca.
