British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German opposition leader Friedrich Merz in London on Saturday, as Russian strikes killed three people in Ukraine. The meeting underscores ongoing diplomatic efforts to support Ukraine amid the escalating conflict.
Diplomatic Talks in London
The leaders discussed further military and financial aid for Ukraine, as well as long-term security guarantees. Starmer reiterated the UK's unwavering support for Kyiv, while Macron emphasized European unity. Merz, who is expected to challenge Chancellor Olaf Scholz in upcoming elections, called for increased German defense spending.
Russian Attacks Continue
Meanwhile, Russian missile and drone attacks hit civilian infrastructure in eastern and southern Ukraine, killing at least three people and wounding over a dozen. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted several projectiles, but debris caused casualties and damage.
Zelenskyy thanked the allies for their support but urged faster delivery of promised weapons systems. He stressed that Ukraine needs more air defense systems to protect its cities and energy grid.
The meeting comes as the war enters its fourth year, with no signs of de-escalation. Diplomatic efforts continue, but battlefield dynamics remain fluid.
