Semi-Tanker Crash Near Calgary Sends Two to Hospital

A two-vehicle collision approximately 40 minutes northeast of Calgary has resulted in a woman and a child being transported to hospital. The incident occurred on May 25, 2026, at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 564.

Details of the Crash

Emergency services responded to the scene at 10:50 a.m. following reports of a collision between a semi-tanker and an SUV. According to Alberta EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux, there were three occupants across both vehicles. The driver of the semi-tanker declined medical assistance.

Injuries and Medical Response

The adult driver of the SUV, a woman in her 30s, was airlifted by STARS air ambulance to a Calgary hospital in serious and potentially life-threatening condition. A young child, who was also in the SUV, was taken by ground ambulance to the Alberta Children's Hospital in stable and non-life-threatening condition.

Road Closure and Investigation

Southbound Highway 9 was temporarily closed but has since reopened in both directions. The RCMP is conducting an ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision. Authorities have confirmed there are no concerns regarding the contents of the semi-tanker.

This crash comes just weeks after a fatal collision at the same intersection on Mother's Day, which claimed the lives of two women and sent three others to hospital.
