Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 34-year-old man from Sault Ste. Marie with attempted murder and multiple other offences following an intimate partner violence investigation.

The accused, whose name has not been released to protect the victim's identity, faces charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and forcible confinement. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on June 20, 2026, at a residence in Sault Ste. Marie.
According to police, officers responded to a call at approximately 11:30 p.m. and found a woman with serious injuries. She was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

“This was a violent and disturbing incident,” said OPP Detective Inspector Mark Baxter in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the victim as she recovers. We are committed to holding perpetrators of intimate partner violence accountable.”
The accused was arrested at the scene without incident and remains in custody pending a bail hearing. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
