Police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a male suspect and a vehicle believed to be involved in the March shootings of synagogues in Toronto and Vaughan, Ontario. On May 1, 2026, York Regional Police released images of the individual and the car as part of an ongoing investigation conducted jointly by police services in both cities.
Suspect and Vehicle Description
The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a thin build and black curly hair. According to a police statement, he is believed to be a youth. The suspect vehicle is an older model, black, four-door Honda Civic. The images are being made available to the public under a court order and will remain accessible through the weekend.
Details of the Incidents
The investigation stems from two separate shootings that occurred in early March. On Friday, March 6, just before midnight, officers responded to reports of gunshots near Clark Avenue West and York Hill Boulevard in Vaughan. Upon arrival, they discovered that the front doors of a synagogue had been damaged by gunfire. Two individuals who were inside the building at the time were unharmed.
The following day, Saturday, March 7, just after midnight, Toronto Police Service was called to the Shaarei Shomayim synagogue in the Bathurst Street and Glencairn Avenue area. Officers found similar damage to the front doors caused by gunfire. No one was inside the synagogue during this incident.
