A Toronto man is facing charges after leading Ontario Provincial Police on a foot chase through the woods in Northern Ontario following a fail-to-remain collision in Mansfield. The incident began when OPP responded to a report of a hit-and-run in the community of Mansfield, located in the District of Nipissing. Officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading police on a pursuit that ended when the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area.
Foot Chase Through Dense Woods
Police tracked the suspect through the dense forest, with the assistance of the OPP Canine Unit. After a brief chase, officers apprehended the man without further incident. The suspect, a 34-year-old Toronto resident, was taken into custody and transported to the North Bay OPP detachment.
Charges Laid
The man has been charged with several offences, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, and failure to remain at the scene of a collision. He was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
OPP remind the public that attempting to flee from police poses a significant risk to public safety and that those who do so will be subject to serious consequences. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
