OPP officers conducted the operation on July 8 along Highway 417 in the Ottawa area. In total, 38 drivers were charged with speeding, with several exceeding 150 km/h. One driver was charged with stunt driving after being clocked at 170 km/h.
“Speeding continues to be a leading cause of serious injury and fatal collisions on our highways,” said OPP Sgt. Claude Denis. “We are committed to enforcing traffic laws to keep everyone safe.”
Impact on Road Safety
The enforcement blitz highlights ongoing concerns about speeding on major highways in Ontario. According to OPP data, speeding-related collisions accounted for 30% of all fatal crashes on provincial highways in 2025. The operation aims to deter dangerous driving and reduce accidents.
“Every driver needs to understand the consequences of their actions behind the wheel,” added Denis. “We will continue these efforts to ensure compliance with speed limits.”
