Montreal Synagogue Targeted by Attempted Arson Attack
A Montreal synagogue was the target of an attempted arson attack early Thursday morning, according to police. The incident occurred at the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim in the Outremont district. Officers responded to a call around 2:30 a.m. and found evidence of an attempted fire at the building's entrance. The fire was quickly extinguished, and no injuries were reported. The SPVM (Service de police de la Ville de Montréal) is investigating the incident as a hate-motivated crime. Security footage is being reviewed, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward. Community leaders have condemned the attack, expressing solidarity with the Jewish community. This incident comes amid a rise in antisemitic incidents across Canada. The synagogue's rabbi stated that the community is shaken but resilient, and security measures are being enhanced. Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante also denounced the attack, calling it an act of hatred that has no place in the city. The investigation is ongoing, and police have not yet identified any suspects.
