Michael Moore Launches Scathing Attack on Democrats Over Iran Policy
Acclaimed filmmaker and activist Michael Moore unleashed a blistering critique of the Democratic Party on Tuesday, labeling them "cowards" and accusing their leadership of actively supporting military conflict with Iran. In a detailed Substack post published during precarious hours before President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, Moore condemned what he called the "so-called 'opposition party'" for its role in escalating tensions.
'No One Is Coming to Save Us'
Moore wrote with palpable frustration, "The so-called 'opposition party' in the U.S. — the party that initiated and continues to enable the genocide in Gaza and whose Senate 'Leader' Chuck Schumer taunted Trump last year to be more aggressive with Iran — stands by now and watches this in horror. Not simply because they are cowards, but because Democratic leadership actually supports this war."
He concluded this section with a stark warning: "NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE US. WE MUST DO IT OURSELVES. THIS MADNESS MUST STOP."
Urging Military Disobedience Against Trump
The documentarian went further, directly appealing to U.S. military leaders to refuse any illegal or immoral orders from President Trump. This call came as Trump threatened that "a whole civilization will die" if Iran failed to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz by 8 p.m. Eastern time.
Moore specifically referenced Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's previous criticism of Trump's Iran policy. Last year, Schumer posted a social media video accusing Trump of "folding on Iran" and demanding "No side deals." Trump responded by ordering U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities later that month, famously declaring afterwards they were "obliterated." Moore linked directly to Schumer's video in his Tuesday post.
Celebrating Iran's Historical Contributions
Before delving into contemporary politics, Moore took considerable space to highlight Iran's profound contributions to human civilization. He described Iran as "the cradle of one of the greatest civilizations," noting it had "already written the world's first declaration of human rights" while Europeans were still "figuring out how to build a hut."
The filmmaker added with characteristic wit, "These are the people who gave us algebra, medicine, and the theme song for Game of Thrones. Despite harsh government crackdowns and censorship today, Iran still produces some of the world's greatest filmmakers."
Chronicling Decades of U.S. Intervention
Moore provided historical context for current tensions, tracing U.S. "meddling" in Iran back to 1953. That year saw the CIA-led overthrow of democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh, who Moore said committed the apparent "crime" of attempting to nationalize Iran's oil resources for the benefit of his people.
He continued this historical indictment, writing, "We supported Saddam Hussein's Iraq in their brutal decade-long war with Iran in the 1980s, providing him with chemical weapons and other material support. And, yet, our leaders and our media are stupid enough to keep asking questions like 'why do they hate us?'"
'We're the Bad Guys!'
The Michigan native's rhetoric intensified as he challenged conventional narratives about Iranian animosity toward America. "Hates us?! They don't hate US! WE HATE THEM! We're the bad guys!" Moore declared. "If you didn't realize that under previous presidents at least Donald Trump has ripped off the mask and shown you who we really are!"
This criticism extends Moore's recent political commentary. He previously condemned former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris for authorizing U.S. military aid to Israel during what he terms the "genocide in Gaza." In Tuesday's post, he branded Trump "America's terrorist Commander-in-Chief."
A Final Constitutional Appeal
Moore concluded his extensive polemic with a direct appeal to lawmakers, urging them to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office. This constitutional mechanism allows for the removal of a president deemed unfit to discharge the powers and duties of the office.
