Marjorie Taylor Greene Resigns From Congress After Trump Withdraws Support
Marjorie Taylor Greene Resigns From U.S. Congress

In a stunning political development, prominent MAGA figure Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced her resignation from the United States Congress, marking a dramatic fracture within the Trump-aligned Republican movement.

The Resignation Announcement

The 51-year-old Republican congresswoman from Georgia revealed her decision in a video posted online on Friday, November 22, 2025. Greene, who was first elected in 2020, stated she had always been despised in Washington DC and never fit in with the political establishment.

She declared that her final day in office would be January 5, 2026, explaining she wanted to spare her supporters and family from what she anticipated would be a difficult primary challenge. Greene specifically mentioned not wanting to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, while expressing concern that Republicans would likely lose in the upcoming midterm elections regardless of her personal victory.

The Trump-Greene Rift

Greene's resignation comes exactly one week after former President Donald Trump withdrew his support for his former staunch ally. The relationship between the two powerful MAGA figures had been deteriorating over their differing positions on releasing government records related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In her resignation speech, Greene directly referenced this conflict, stating: Standing up for American women who were raped at 14, trafficked and used by rich powerful men should not result in me being called a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States, whom I fought for.

Trump had publicly turned against Greene, referring to her as Wacky Marjorie and withdrawing all support. He followed with multiple posts on his Truth Social platform attacking her as a lightweight and even a traitor to the Republican Party.

Political Fallout and Reactions

The rupture represents the clearest sign yet of growing divisions within the MAGA movement, which has been experiencing internal turmoil following strong Democratic victories in recent off-year elections.

When contacted by ABC News about Greene's resignation, Trump responded that it was great news from the country and added that she hadn't given him advance notice but it doesn't matter, you know but I think it's great. I think she should be happy.

Greene confirmed that the Epstein affair had forced the break between her and Trump. The wealthy financier had moved in elite circles for years, cultivating close ties with business tycoons, politicians, academics and celebrities to whom he was accused of trafficking girls and young women for sex.

The controversy came to a head when Congress passed and the president signed a law requiring government records on Epstein to be made public, following months of Trump attempting to keep the material confidential.

Greene, who had been a vocal proponent of releasing the so-called Epstein files, said she subsequently faced a wave of threats following Trump's public attacks against her.
