Third pedestrian death in recent weeks
Tuesday’s fatal collision is the city’s third pedestrian death in recent weeks, with all three incidents occurring along major corridors in Windsor. Earlier this month, a 69-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle on Howard Avenue. Police said officers responded to the intersection of Howard Avenue and Charles Street at around 5 a.m. on May 2. When they arrived, they found an unresponsive man lying in the roadway. Investigators believe the man was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by a northbound vehicle. He later died in hospital.
The man’s death followed another fatal pedestrian collision on April 15, when a 65-year-old woman was struck and killed in the 1600 block of Tecumseh Road East. According to police, the woman was crossing the street mid-block when she was hit by an eastbound vehicle. The impact reportedly threw her into the opposite lane, where she was struck by a second vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle remained at the scene, while the second driver fled and has not been identified. Investigators continue to seek information that may help identify the second driver.
