Vancouver DTES investigation leads to major drug and weapon seizure
DTES probe yields major drug, weapon seizure

Vancouver police have announced a major seizure of drugs and weapons following a six-month investigation in the Downtown Eastside. Dubbed Project Bingo, the probe began after officers observed suspicious behavior linked to a single-room occupancy (SRO) building near East Hastings Street and Princess Avenue.

Details of the Operation

According to VPD officers, the investigation focused on individuals associated with the SRO who were believed to be involved in drug trafficking and violent crime. The operation culminated in the seizure of a significant quantity of illicit substances, including fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, as well as multiple firearms and other weapons.

“These are definitely people that I stay away from,” one officer commented, highlighting the dangerous nature of the suspects. The police have not yet released the names of those arrested, but charges are expected to be filed soon.

Community Impact

The Downtown Eastside has long been a focal point for drug-related crime in Vancouver. Residents and community advocates have called for increased police presence and support services to address the ongoing crisis. This latest seizure is seen as a positive step, though many emphasize the need for long-term solutions.

“We are committed to making our streets safer,” said a VPD spokesperson. “This operation demonstrates our dedication to targeting the most harmful elements in our community.”

Police are urging anyone with information about drug or weapon activity in the area to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing.
