A Calgary family is reeling after a father was brutally attacked without provocation while walking his teenage son to a bus stop late Saturday night. The incident has left the community shaken and police searching for two suspects.
Unprovoked Assault
The victim, a father in his 40s, was accompanying his 17-year-old son to the bus stop in the northwest community of Evanston around 11:30 p.m. when two men approached them. Without any warning or exchange of words, the suspects began punching and kicking the father repeatedly, according to police. The teen was not physically harmed but witnessed the attack.
The assailants fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. The father sustained non-life-threatening injuries, including bruises and a possible concussion, and was treated at a local hospital.
Family in Shock
Speaking with reporters, the victim's wife expressed disbelief and anger. 'We never expected something like this to happen in our neighborhood. He was just walking our son to the bus stop, like any normal night,' she said. The family has lived in the area for over a decade and described it as generally safe.
Calgary police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area to come forward. 'This was a completely unprovoked and senseless act of violence,' said Constable Mark Johnson. 'We are determined to find those responsible.'
Community Response
Neighbors have expressed concern and support for the family. A local community association is organizing a safety meeting to discuss measures to prevent such incidents. 'We need to look out for each other,' said association president Linda Green. 'This could have happened to any of us.'
