Three men have pleaded guilty for their roles in the death of Sharif Rahman, the Owen Sound, Ont., restaurant owner, bringing a close to a case that has drawn significant attention. Robert Evans Sr., Robert Evans Jr., and Barry Evans entered their pleas in a London, Ont., courtroom on July 9, 2026, according to court records.
Details of the Guilty Pleas
The three men each admitted to charges related to Rahman’s killing, which occurred in 2024. Rahman, 44, was the owner of a popular Owen Sound restaurant and was fatally assaulted outside his establishment. The Crown accepted the pleas, and sentencing is expected to follow at a later date.
“This brings some measure of closure to the family and community,” said a spokesperson for the Ontario Crown Attorney’s Office. “We are committed to ensuring justice is served.”
Background of the Case
The incident sparked outrage in Owen Sound, a city of about 22,000 people on Georgian Bay. Rahman was remembered as a beloved community figure and generous employer. The case involved a lengthy investigation by Owen Sound Police and the Ontario Provincial Police.
According to court documents, the assault stemmed from a dispute outside Rahman’s restaurant. The three accused were arrested in 2025 and had been awaiting trial. The guilty pleas avoided a potentially lengthy trial.
Impact on the Community
Friends and family of Rahman have expressed relief at the resolution. A memorial fund established in his name has raised over $100,000 for local youth programs. The case has also prompted discussions about violence against small business owners.
“Sharif was a pillar of our community,” said a local business association representative. “We hope this verdict brings peace to those who loved him.”
