Surrey police have seized an estimated $891,000 worth of illicit drugs in a four-month investigation into alleged drug trafficking activity, resulting in one arrest and the deportation of two other men.
Project Phantom Investigation
Surrey Police Service investigators launched the investigation, dubbed Project Phantom, in February into several people police believed were involved in drug trafficking, including in fentanyl. On May 21, police searched a home in Surrey with the help of Canada Border Services Agency and the Lower Mainland District emergency response team.
Three men were arrested and several types of drugs, with an estimated street value of $891,000, were seized from the property. Some of the drugs seized included more than 15 kilograms of opium, about one and a half kilogram of cannabis, 560 grams of cocaine, and 468 grams of fentanyl, which is the equivalent of about 23,400 lethal doses.
Seized Items and Charges
Police also seized 148 grams of methamphetamine, 35 grams of heroin, packaging materials, scales and cookware, and about $2,150 in cash. Gurjot Singh, 24, faces one count of trafficking and five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Singh, a foreign national, remains in custody until his next court date on June 26.
Deportations and Next Steps
Two other men have not been charged, but have been removed from the country by CBSA. The investigation highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
