Surrey Police Report Extortion Shooting in Cloverdale

On the same day the U.S. Justice Department announced a series of arrests targeting international extortion, drug trafficking, and murder syndicates, police in Metro Vancouver reported another extortion-related shooting in Surrey’s Cloverdale neighbourhood early Tuesday morning.

Details of the Shooting

The Surrey Police Service received a call from a homeowner in the 16500-block of 58th Avenue at approximately 8 a.m., reporting gunshot damage to their residence. Officers confirmed that the damage to the exterior was caused by gunfire that occurred at 2:51 a.m. The residents were home at the time, but no injuries were reported.

The Surrey police extortion response team has taken over the investigation, and early indications suggest that extortion was the motive behind the shooting. Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed suspicious activity, or who has dashcam or surveillance footage, to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502.

Broader Context of Extortion in Metro Vancouver

The shooting comes amid a series of extortion-related incidents in the region over the past year. In October 2025, a similar shooting occurred in Surrey, with bullet holes visible in a window of a home. The U.S. Justice Department’s recent arrests highlight the transnational nature of these criminal networks, which have been linked to drug trafficking and murder. Local police continue to investigate the connections between these incidents and international syndicates.

According to Surrey Police Service, the extortion response team is dedicated to addressing these targeted attacks, which often involve demands for money or property under threat of violence. No suspects have been named in Tuesday’s shooting, and investigations are ongoing.
