Investigators are working to determine the cause of a structure fire that broke out Thursday afternoon near the E.C. Row Expressway in east Windsor. The blaze prompted the closure of a section of North Service Road in both directions as firefighters worked to bring the flames under control.
Firefighters Respond to Commercial Property Blaze
Thick smoke billowed into the sky as Windsor firefighters battled the fire at a commercial property in the 5500 block of North Service Road, near the intersection of E.C. Row Expressway and Jefferson Boulevard. The fire was reported at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Fire officials advised nearby residents to keep their windows closed due to the heavy smoke emanating from the scene. The smoke posed a potential health hazard for those in the immediate vicinity.
Fire Contained to Office Structure and Grassy Area
In a social media update posted shortly after 5:30 p.m., Chief Fire Prevention Officer John Smith confirmed that the fire was contained to an office structure and a grassy area adjacent to railway tracks. He noted that firefighters were initially dispatched to a report of multiple vehicles on fire inside a building, but upon arrival, they determined that no vehicles were involved. Hazardous materials were also not a concern at the time of the incident.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. A fire investigator was called to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
