A 32-year-old man was discovered injured on a Montreal street early Monday morning following an armed assault, according to Montreal police (SPVM). Officers responded to the scene in the city's downtown area around 3 a.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was found with non-life-threatening injuries and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police have not confirmed the type of weapon used but stated that the assault was targeted.
Investigation Underway
SPVM spokesperson Constable Jean-Pierre Brabant said investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday morning. The area was cordoned off for several hours as forensic teams collected evidence.
This incident follows a recent uptick in violent crime in Montreal, with police data showing a 12% increase in assaults compared to the same period last year. However, authorities emphasize that such attacks remain relatively rare in the city.

Local residents expressed alarm over the assault. "It's unsettling to hear about something like this happening so close to home," said Marie Tremblay, a nearby shop owner. "I hope the police can find whoever did this quickly."
