GTA officer shot at near Pearson airport, suspect arrested

A plainclothes Peel Regional Police officer was allegedly shot at multiple times early Sunday near Pearson airport, but the Greater Toronto Area narrowly avoided another police funeral after a fellow officer drove his squad car into the suspect, ending the threat.

Incident Details

At 3:29 a.m. on June 21, 2026, members of Peel's Strategic Tactical Enforcement Policing (STEP) unit responded after patrol officers spotted a man wearing a mask leaving the Million Dollar Restaurant on Torbram Road in Mississauga. Witnesses said the suspect jumped fences in an attempt to flee. Constable Miguel Bona, a popular officer, tried to speak to the man but after no success yelled “police.” After a short foot chase, a source said the suspect allegedly “turned and discharged multiple rounds in his direction.”

Soon after, veteran Constable Tyler Satino arrived in his squad car and “the suspect was located and struck by the vehicle,” causing the firearm to fall from his hand. Sources said police did not return fire. Bona then arrested the suspect. A fully loaded Glock 23 .40-calibre firearm was recovered. It is still undetermined how many shots were fired.

Suspect and Charges

Isaiah Bachoo, 24, was arrested and faces serious charges. While weapons charges and breaches of previous court conditions are pending, Peel police plan to consult the Crown’s office on Monday on charges related to the alleged shootings. Sources said the accused is known to police and was charged in a Sept. 6, 2021, shooting, but those charges were later withdrawn. The allegations have not been tested in court, and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty. The accused was not hurt in this incident.

Witnesses reported hearing at least three gunshots. Police said there were more bullets left in the chamber that were not fired due to the hero cop’s move to rescue his at-risk partner. “We are very fortunate that this situation did not end in tragedy,” said Peel police Deputy Chief Marc Andrews. “The past several weeks have been incredibly difficult for the policing community and incidents of this nature can have a lasting impact on those involved and those who witness them.”

Context of Recent Police Violence

This incident comes amid a string of violent attacks on police officers in the GTA. On June 11 in North York, Toronto Police Constable Marc Pinizzotto was shot as an Emergency Task Force team executed a search warrant. The alleged shooter, Nicholas Bennett, 19, was also shot by accompanying officers and is recovering in hospital facing a first-degree murder charge. Pinizzotto's funeral is set for Wednesday.

Last week, a Toronto Police officer found himself pinned by a car on a concrete barrier on the Millwood Road bridge. The car was allegedly driven by a 12-year-old boy charged with attempted murder. On June 9, OPP Constable Tarun Bali died after being struck by a car driven by a man who had allegedly escaped custody from a hospital in Hearst, Ontario, where he was detained under the Mental Health Act.

This has been a devastating month for law enforcement: two police officers killed, two funerals, and two more officers who narrowly escaped death. Four police officers dead or nearly dying in June is terrifying.
