Charges Laid After BC Police Seize 12 kg Drugs, $60K Cash

Charges have been laid following a major drug seizure in British Columbia, where police recovered 12 kilograms of illicit drugs, more than $60,000 in cash, body armour, a firearm, and several loaded magazines. The investigation led to the arrest of a suspect now facing multiple drug and weapons-related charges.

Details of the Seizure

According to a statement from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the seizure occurred after officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the Lower Mainland. The drugs included a mix of substances such as fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, with a combined street value estimated at hundreds of thousands of dollars. The cash recovered is believed to be proceeds of crime.

Suspect in Custody

Police have charged a 34-year-old man with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and unauthorized possession of a firearm. The accused was remanded into custody pending a court appearance. “This seizure represents a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in our community,” said RCMP Corporal Jane Smith in a press release.

Broader Context

The seizure comes amid a broader crackdown on drug trafficking in British Columbia, which has seen a surge in overdose deaths linked to toxic street drugs. The province has declared a public health emergency, with over 2,000 deaths recorded in 2025 alone. Police emphasize that removing drugs and firearms from the streets is critical to reducing harm.
