The Regina Humane Society (RHS) will host a free microchipping clinic on July 15, 2026, at its new facility located at 4900 Parliament Avenue. The event, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., aims to microchip up to 200 cats and dogs at no cost to owners.
Microchipping Helps Reunite Lost Pets
According to RHS officials, microchipping is a permanent form of identification that significantly increases the chances of reuniting lost pets with their families. “Microchipping is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lost pet finds its way home,” said RHS spokesperson Lisa Johnson. “We encourage all pet owners to take advantage of this free service.”
Clinic Details and Requirements
Pet owners must bring proof of ownership, such as a license or veterinary records. The clinic is first-come, first-served, and no appointments are necessary. Each microchip takes less than a minute to implant and is about the size of a grain of rice.
The RHS reports that in 2025, only 30% of stray animals brought to the shelter were microchipped, underscoring the need for such clinics. The organization hopes to increase that number and reduce the strain on shelter resources.
Additional Services Available
In addition to microchipping, the RHS will offer discounted pet licenses and provide information on spay/neuter programs. The new facility, which opened in 2024, features expanded capacity and modern amenities to better serve the community.
