Rhonda MacDonald booked a cottage in Kawartha Lakes for a family reunion, but the vacation was ruined by grimy appliances and mouse droppings, according to a report by Toronto News.
Unsanitary Conditions Discovered Upon Arrival
MacDonald said the home was grimy and had unusable appliances. The family encountered mouse poop throughout the property, making it uninhabitable. The rental, listed on Vrbo, failed to meet basic cleanliness standards, forcing the family to cut their trip short.
“It was disgusting,” MacDonald said. “We couldn’t use the kitchen or the bathrooms properly.”
Impact on Family Reunion
The family had planned a reunion at the Kawartha Lakes property, but the unsanitary conditions forced them to leave early. MacDonald expressed frustration with Vrbo’s response, stating the company did not adequately address the issue. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about vacation rental cleanliness and accountability.
According to the report, the family lost money on the booking and had to find alternative accommodations at the last minute. MacDonald hopes her story will warn others to inspect rentals thoroughly before booking.
