A brave house cat in British Columbia chased a black bear out of a backyard, surprising the bear and forcing it to scramble up a tree. The incident, captured on video, occurred in a residential area where bears occasionally wander in search of food.
Cat confronts bear
The cat, a domestic shorthair, was seen approaching the bear with its fur puffed up and hissing loudly. The bear, estimated to be a yearling, initially stood its ground but quickly retreated as the cat advanced. The bear climbed a nearby tree to escape, while the cat stood guard at the base.
Residents of the home said the cat has a history of chasing off other animals, but this was the first bear encounter. "We couldn't believe it," said one resident. "The cat just ran right at the bear without hesitation."
