Dog Attack in Amherstburg Leaves Mother and Daughter Injured and Shaken
Amherstburg Dog Attack Leaves Mother, Daughter Injured

An Amherstburg family is seeking answers after two loose dogs attacked their pet German shepherd, which was being walked by an 11-year-old girl on Tuesday morning. The incident left the mother and daughter with cuts, scratches, and emotional trauma, though no serious injuries were reported.

Details of the Attack

The attack occurred before 10 a.m. on the front lawn of a property on Cowen Court, a newer neighbourhood of stately homes. Nina Di Maria and her daughter Angela Perez were both shaken by the incident, which lasted several minutes. Di Maria described the experience as terrifying, stating, "My daughter and I were both completely traumatized and in shock after the attack."

Di Maria had asked her daughter Angela to take their two-year-old German shepherd, Maverick, for a walk. Minutes later, Di Maria received a panicked call from Angela, who reported that a dog had bitten her. Di Maria rushed to the scene, where another woman, Sukhi Kaur, was already attempting to help.

Surveillance Footage Captures the Incident

Home surveillance video from Cowan Court shows Angela walking Maverick on a leash along the road. A loose dog runs across the property towards Maverick, and the two animals begin growling and fighting on the road. Angela is clearly upset, yelling at the dogs to stop. Maverick pulls free of Angela's grip, and the dogs move onto the lawn, briefly calming down while Angela, crying, calls for Maverick. The dogs resume growling, and Angela calls her mother, saying, "I don't know what to do."

Sukhi Kaur appears and tries to help, but the dogs resume fighting. Maverick chases one dog away, but it quickly returns, and the fight continues. Soon, a second loose dog appears on the lawn, leading to a chaotic scene with the three dogs growling, barking, and fighting. At one point, Di Maria, holding Maverick's leash, gets between the dogs to separate them. Gursharen Saini, who lives at the house, steps onto the porch and throws an object to distract the dogs.

Owner Claims Dogs Jumped Fence

About four minutes into the attack, a man in a blue hoodie appears. Di Maria asks if the dogs are his, and he responds affirmatively, stating that his dogs "jumped the fence." The man struggled to control the dogs, grabbing one but having difficulty with the other. Di Maria questioned why the dogs were off their leash.

Di Maria identified the attacking dogs as Rottweilers, though this has not been independently confirmed. The family is now seeking answers and hoping for measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
