Emily Blunt is setting the record straight about those famous roast potatoes. During her appearance on Thursday's episode of the popular YouTube show "Hot Ones," host Sean Evans asked the actress about a viral recipe that has been attributed to her.
"I really have to clear up this rumor that I invented these roast potatoes," Blunt admitted to Evans. "They have been named 'Emily's Roast Potatoes.' They really aren't mine."
The confusion dates back to 2018, when Blunt appeared on an episode of the Food Network's "Barefoot Contessa" and shared a roast potato recipe that her family has been making for years. Host Ina Garten was so impressed that in 2020, she included it in her cookbook "Modern Comfort Food" and named the dish "Emily's English Roasted Potatoes."
In 2022, Garten told the "Oppenheimer" star that she had posted Blunt's recipe on Instagram and it "blew up." "Everyone's like, Emily's potatoes just broke the internet," Garten said at the time.
"This is, like, a classic English thing that everyone cooks every single Sunday," Blunt explained to Evans on "Hot Ones." "But I don't know if America has quite got on board with this tradition."
Blunt added that her British friends have been giving her side-eyes ever since Garten bestowed the honor upon her. "I think all of my British friends are like, 'You didn't invent roast potatoes,'" Blunt said. "And I'm like, 'I know.' But if Ina Garten wants to call them 'Emily's Roast Potatoes,' I'm absolutely delighted."
The exchange has since gone viral, with fans amused by Blunt's candid confession. The actress, known for her roles in "The Devil Wears Prada" and "A Quiet Place," is set to appear in the upcoming sequel "The Devil Wears Prada 2."
