Calgary Nightclub Forced to Close Following Health Inspection Revelations
A prominent nightclub located near downtown Calgary has been compelled to cease operations after Alberta health inspectors uncovered numerous environmental health violations during a recent inspection. The establishment, known as Fire N Ice Bar and Lounge situated in the Beltline neighborhood, was issued a formal closure order on April 10, 2026, following a series of inspections that revealed alarming conditions.
Multiple Inspections Reveal Persistent Issues
The closure came after three separate inspections conducted between September 2024 and April 2026. The most recent inspection on April 10 documented a staggering total of 16 health code violations at the popular nightspot. These violations ranged from relatively minor issues to serious health hazards that prompted immediate action from regulatory authorities.
According to an environmental health inspection report released by Alberta Health Services, inspectors discovered evidence of a cockroach infestation throughout the facility. The report detailed that pest control monitoring glue boards contained "an abundance of cockroaches in all cycles of life," with cockroach frass observed on various surfaces and live cockroaches spotted outside of monitoring traps.
Critical Violations and Unsanitary Conditions
Of the 16 documented violations, two were classified as critical. The cockroach infestation represented one critical violation, while the discovery of a propane tank stored on the main floor inside the facility constituted the other. These critical findings alone provided sufficient grounds for the immediate closure order.
The inspection report further revealed multiple areas of concern regarding the physical condition of the establishment:
- Peeling wallpaper and damaged surfaces throughout the facility
- Unfinished construction including exposed wastewater lines and unfinished drywall ceilings
- Missing baseboards in the basement kitchen, creating seams between floor and wall that would be difficult to properly clean
- Dirty customer washrooms with observed mold growth on walls
- Accumulation of grease, soil, and food debris on equipment and surfaces throughout the food establishment
The report specifically noted that this accumulation affected "floors throughout the facility, walls throughout the facility, shelving, countertops and bottoms, dishwashers, and cooking equipment."
Business Ownership and Response
According to the Better Business Bureau, Fire N Ice Bar and Lounge is owned by Praveen Bali, Barinder Dhillon, Joginder Sindhu, Jagjit Sindhu, and Narinder Sindhu. When contacted by media for comment regarding the closure and violations, the business did not respond to inquiries.
The inspection report did not provide a tentative reopening date for the establishment but indicated that a "follow-up is required" pending resolution of the issues that prompted the closure order. Alberta Health Services posted a closure notice on the door of the establishment, photographed on April 20, 2026, confirming the regulatory action.
This incident highlights the importance of regular health inspections for food and beverage establishments, particularly those serving large numbers of patrons in urban nightlife districts. The closure serves as a reminder to business owners of their responsibility to maintain proper sanitation standards and address maintenance issues promptly to ensure public health and safety.
