Toronto Fire Reports Surge in Emergency Calls Over 24 Hours

Toronto Fire Services reported a surge in emergency calls over the last 24 hours, with firefighters responding to a variety of incidents across the city. The increase in calls has put additional strain on resources, but officials say they are managing the situation.

Multiple Incidents Reported

Among the calls, crews responded to a house fire that sent one firefighter to the hospital with minor injuries. Another incident involved a serious motorcycle collision that closed the northbound St. James Bridge. Firefighters also dealt with a transport truck fire on Highway 101, which led to a section closure.

Medical Emergencies and Other Events

In addition to fires, paramedics attended to several medical emergencies. A separate incident saw three elderly residents die in hospital days after a devastating house fire in Markham. The surge in calls comes as the city experiences a heatwave, which may have contributed to the increased demand for emergency services.
