Saskatchewan RCMP have laid a manslaughter charge in connection with a homicide that occurred in the remote northern community of Turnor Lake. The charge comes after an extensive investigation into the death of a local resident, whose identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Details of the Incident
Authorities were called to a residence in Turnor Lake on the evening of May 8, 2026, following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive individual who was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as a 34-year-old man from the community.
Investigation and Charges
The RCMP Major Crime Unit took over the investigation, working alongside the Saskatchewan Coroners Service. Through forensic analysis and witness interviews, investigators identified a suspect. On May 9, 2026, police arrested and charged 28-year-old James Thomas with manslaughter. Thomas appeared in court on May 10 and was remanded into custody pending a future court date.
