GoFundMe for Five Children Lost in Kitchener Crash

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support an Ontario family who tragically lost five young children in a two-car collision north of Kitchener on Friday night. The children, aged 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12, were passengers in a van that collided with an SUV in Mapleton Township.

Fundraiser Details

As of Monday noon, the fundraiser had collected $99,552 toward a $120,000 goal. Organizer Nancy Doerksen wrote, "My family is living through a tragedy that no one should ever have to face. In a devastating accident, we lost five precious children who were deeply loved by all of us."

The funds will help cover funeral expenses, travel costs, lost income, and other unexpected needs. Doerksen emphasized that the support will allow the family to focus on healing and recovery.

Injuries and Hospitalizations

Five other family members, including a toddler, and the SUV driver were rushed to hospitals with various injuries. The mother remains in hospital with severe injuries to her kidney, liver, gallbladder, broken ribs, pelvic bone, and extensive bruising. Doerksen noted, "Our mom remains in the hospital... At this time, we are unsure how long her recovery will take."

The father is recovering from injuries and is in stable condition. A 15-month-old sibling is also hospitalized. The SUV driver suffered broken legs and is being treated in Hamilton.

Crash Investigation

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 4th Line and Wellington Rd. 12 around 7:30 p.m. Friday. The van had 10 occupants, while the SUV had one driver. OPP Chief Supt. Dwight Thib confirmed four adults and an infant from the van sustained serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking for witnesses or dashcam footage to call Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Thib offered condolences to the family and community during this difficult time. No details on the cause of the crash have been released.
