Two men from Lethbridge are facing serious drug charges following a significant cocaine seizure in Calgary. The bust, valued at nearly $400,000, was announced by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) on Friday.
Details of the Seizure
According to ALERT, the investigation began earlier this year, focusing on drug trafficking activities in southern Alberta. On Wednesday, police executed search warrants at a residence in Calgary and a vehicle, uncovering approximately four kilograms of cocaine. The street value of the drugs is estimated at $390,000.
The two suspects, aged 28 and 31, were arrested without incident. They have been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime.
Court Proceedings
Both men appeared in a Calgary court on Thursday and were remanded into custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for later this month. The identities of the accused have not been released to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
ALERT officials emphasized that this seizure disrupts a significant drug supply chain in the region. "This is a substantial amount of cocaine that will not reach our streets," said a spokesperson. "We continue to work with local police to combat drug trafficking."
The investigation remains active, and authorities do not rule out further arrests.
