Saanich Drug Investigation Leads to Two Arrests
Police in Saanich have arrested two individuals following a drug probe that uncovered a significant cache of illicit substances, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and GHB, along with stolen goods. The estimated street value of the drugs is $55,000.
Details of the Seizure
The investigation, which spanned several weeks, culminated in the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Saanich. Officers discovered a substantial quantity of fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid responsible for numerous overdose deaths, as well as methamphetamine and gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), a central nervous system depressant often used as a date-rape drug. In addition to the drugs, police recovered stolen property, including electronics and tools.
Charges and Court Proceedings
The two suspects, whose identities have not been released pending formal charges, are facing multiple counts related to drug trafficking and possession of stolen property. They are scheduled to appear in court later this week. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities do not rule out further arrests.
Community Impact
Local residents have expressed relief at the arrests, citing concerns about drug-related crime in the area. Police emphasize the importance of community tips in leading to the successful operation. The seizure of fentanyl is particularly significant, as even small amounts can be lethal.
Police Statement
In a statement, Saanich police spokesperson Constable Sarah Johnson said, "This operation demonstrates our commitment to removing dangerous drugs from our streets and holding traffickers accountable. We urge anyone with information about drug activity to come forward." The public is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
