Honda Recalls Over 37,000 Odyssey Minivans in Canada Over Airbag Issue
Honda Recalls 37,000+ Odyssey Minivans in Canada Over Airbags

Honda has announced a recall of more than 37,000 Odyssey minivans in Canada due to a safety risk involving unexpected airbag deployment. The recall, issued on April 9 and posted on Transport Canada's Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database, affects certain model years from 2018 to 2022.

Software Problem Causes Airbag Issue

According to the recall notice, a software problem could cause the side airbags and side curtain airbags to inflate unexpectedly under certain conditions. This poses a safety risk as an airbag that deploys without a crash could lead to injury.

What Owners Should Do

Honda will notify affected vehicle owners by mail. Customers are advised to take their vehicles to a dealership to have the supplemental restraint system electronic control unit reprogrammed or replaced as necessary. Owners can check online if their vehicle is affected or call Honda at 1-888-946-6329.

Background on the Honda Odyssey

The Honda Odyssey is an eight-seat minivan introduced in North America in 1994. This recall is the latest in a series for Honda. In December, about 11,000 Acura ILX vehicles from 2016 to 2020 were recalled due to brake issues. In 2024, 12,000 Honda SUVs were recalled in Canada because the fuel filler neck could separate from the filler pipe in a crash, causing gasoline leaks and increasing fire risks.

Owners are encouraged to act promptly to ensure their vehicles are safe.
