Windsor firefighters responded Thursday morning to an upgraded structure fire at an industrial site on the city’s west side. The incident occurred at the Hearn Industrial Services plant on GN Booth Drive, where a welding operation ignited nearby materials, causing a blaze that prompted an evacuation of the building.
Fire Response and Evacuation
Fire crews arrived shortly before 8:30 a.m. to find light smoke emanating from the facility. Officials confirmed that the building had been evacuated prior to their arrival. The fire was brought under control by approximately 9:30 a.m., thanks to the swift actions of the Windsor Fire and Rescue Services.
Injuries and Hospitalization
One individual was transported to the hospital for medical care, according to Windsor Fire and Rescue Services spokesman John Smith. He stated, “One person was transported for additional care to hospital. We have no updates on that person yet.” The condition of the injured person remains unknown at this time.
Investigation and Damage Assessment
A damage estimate has not yet been determined, as officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire. The Ministry of Labour has been notified and is involved in the ongoing investigation. Fire officials are advising the public to stay away from the area while crews remain on scene.
