Union Urges Delay as NS Health Pushes Digital Rollout

The Nova Scotia General Employees Union is urging the provincial government to delay the upcoming digital health system rollout, expressing concerns that the system is not ready for implementation. Union President Sandra Mullen stated that rushing the process could compromise patient safety and overwhelm healthcare workers.

Union Raises Red Flags

In a press conference held on Thursday, Mullen highlighted several issues, including insufficient training for staff and unresolved technical glitches. She emphasized that the union is not opposed to digital transformation but insists on a phased approach that ensures reliability.

Government's Position

Nova Scotia Health officials, however, maintain that the rollout is on schedule and necessary to improve efficiency. They argue that delays would only prolong outdated paper-based processes.

The digital system is part of a broader initiative to modernize healthcare records and streamline patient data access across the province. Critics worry that without proper testing, the system could lead to errors in medication administration and patient identification.

The union has requested a meeting with Health Minister Michelle Thompson to discuss their concerns before the planned launch date.
