Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury is turning to the airwaves to recover from pandemic-related fundraising disruptions. The hospice will host a radio fundraiser on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, to generate much-needed revenue after COVID-19 forced the cancellation of several in-person events.
Pandemic Hits Fundraising Hard
The hospice, which provides end-of-life care, relies heavily on community donations and events. However, lockdowns and physical distancing measures have severely curtailed its ability to hold traditional fundraisers. According to officials, the organization has seen a significant drop in donations since March.
Radio Event Details
The one-day radio fundraiser will feature appeals from staff, volunteers, and families who have benefited from hospice services. Listeners will be able to pledge donations by phone. The event is being coordinated with local radio stations to maximize reach.
Community Support Needed
"We are hoping the community will rally behind us," said a hospice spokesperson. "Every dollar counts in ensuring we can continue to provide compassionate care." The hospice serves approximately 200 patients annually and relies on fundraising for about 30% of its operating budget.
Impact of COVID-19
The pandemic has forced the hospice to cancel its annual gala and several other events, resulting in a loss of over $100,000 in expected revenue. At the same time, demand for hospice services has increased as the virus has put additional strain on the healthcare system.
