90 Day Fiancé Star Jenny Slatten Reveals ALS Diagnosis
Jenny Slatten Opens Up About ALS Diagnosis

Jenny Slatten, a beloved star of TLC's 90 Day Fiancé, has revealed that she has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The 68-year-old reality TV personality and her husband, Sumit Singh, shared the heartbreaking news in an exclusive interview with People magazine ahead of the June 1 premiere of 90 Day: The Last Resort Season 3.

Slatten and Singh, who reside in India, learned of the diagnosis in December 2025, approximately one year after her initial symptoms began. According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness, slurred speech, and eventual paralysis. While there is no cure, the Muscular Dystrophy Association notes that many patients live three to five years after diagnosis, though some survive longer.

The First Signs

The first indication of trouble came in December 2024 when Slatten choked severely while drinking water. Soon after, she began experiencing migraines and difficulty swallowing pills. Initially, the couple suspected an infection, but as symptoms worsened, they grew concerned.

Slatten's speech began to slow, and she started avoiding conversations. "That's when we knew something was wrong," she recalled. In December 2025, during a trip to New York City for a 90 Day Fiancé holiday party, fans noticed her slower speech and expressed concern online. One comment even suggested ALS, prompting Singh to research the disease. "And then I find out that these symptoms she was having — this is what it looks like," he told People.

A Tragic Family Connection

The diagnosis hit especially hard because Slatten's father had died from ALS more than a decade earlier. After returning to India, the couple consulted several neurologists. Initially, doctors thought Slatten had a small clot in her brain, but a second opinion confirmed their worst fears. "We cried and held each other," Slatten said.

A Beloved Couple's Journey

Slatten and Singh first connected online in 2012, though their relationship began with deception: Singh initially pretended to be a 25-year-old British man. Despite this, Slatten gave him another chance, traveling to India in 2013 to meet him. Despite fierce opposition from Singh's family due to their 30-year age gap, the couple stayed together and became fan favorites after joining 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way in 2019.

Slatten is not the only public figure to recently speak openly about ALS. Actor Russell Andrews, known for Better Call Saul and Straight Outta Compton, revealed his own diagnosis over the weekend. The 64-year-old shared the news during an appearance on The Story Is with Elex Michaelson, stating, "I am a person living with ALS. I was diagnosed in the late fall of last year." Another actor, Eric Dane of Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria, died on February 19 at age 53, less than a year after revealing his diagnosis. Before his death, Dane recorded a final video message for his daughters, focusing on love, friendship, and facing terminal illness with dignity.
