Essex County OPP officers stopped a golf cart early Sunday morning on Oakwood Avenue near Rourke Line Road in Lakeshore, leading to impaired driving charges for the driver.

Incident Details

At 1:44 a.m., police observed a golf cart travelling on the roadway and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, a 39-year-old man from Belle River, was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of impaired driving, operating an unsafe vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

According to OPP, the man received a 90-day driver's license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. He is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor in August to answer to the charges.

Second Incident on Pelee Island

In a separate incident, a 43-year-old Kingsville man was arrested on Pelee Island following a traffic complaint. OPP officers investigated after receiving a report near the ferry docks in Leamington.

The suspect faces one count of impaired driving and one count of failure or refusal to comply with a demand. No further details were provided.
