Barrie has launched its annual Pollinator Week photo contest, inviting residents to submit images of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators to win cash prizes. The contest, which began on June 22, 2026, runs until July 15, 2026.
Contest Details and Prizes
Participants can enter up to three photos in categories including bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Winners will receive $500 for first place, $250 for second, and $100 for third in each category. An overall grand prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the best photo across all categories.
According to city officials, the contest aims to raise awareness about the importance of pollinators to local ecosystems and agriculture. “Pollinators are essential for food production and biodiversity,” said a city spokesperson. “This contest is a fun way to engage the community in conservation efforts.”
How to Enter
Entries must be submitted via the city's website, along with a brief description of the photo and location. Photos should be high-resolution and taken within Barrie city limits during the past year. The contest is open to all ages, and winners will be announced during Pollinator Week, which runs from July 22 to 28, 2026.
Last year's contest attracted over 200 entries, with the winning photo featuring a monarch butterfly on a milkweed plant. The city hopes to exceed that number this year.
