A new conservation area has officially opened in Amherstburg, Ontario, providing a protected natural space for the community. The Collavino Conservation Area, named after the local family that donated the land, was inaugurated on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The site spans several acres of woodlands, wetlands, and meadows, offering visitors a chance to experience untouched nature.
Preserving Natural Landscapes
Local officials and conservationists emphasized the importance of maintaining natural areas. 'Some places should remain natural,' said a spokesperson for the Essex Region Conservation Authority, which manages the site. The area features walking trails, birdwatching spots, and educational signage about local flora and fauna.
Community Involvement
The Collavino family donated the land to ensure it remains undeveloped. 'We wanted to give back to the community and protect this beautiful space for future generations,' said a family representative. The conservation area is expected to become a popular destination for hikers, nature enthusiasts, and school groups.
Visitors are encouraged to follow Leave No Trace principles to keep the area pristine. The opening ceremony included a ribbon-cutting and guided tours highlighting the site's ecological significance.
