Winter Storm Hits GTA: Snow Squalls and Icy Conditions Blanket Ontario
Winter Storm Hits GTA: Snow Squalls Blanket Ontario

Residents across the Greater Toronto Area awoke on Sunday, November 30, 2025, to a landscape transformed by winter's first significant touch. Lawns and streets were covered in a layer of snow, though the accumulation in Toronto itself was relatively light compared to the heavier snowfall experienced in other parts of Ontario.

Snow Turns to Rain in the GTA

While the region braced for impact, the major storm system largely spared the core of the GTA. Throughout the day on Sunday, the initial snowfall transitioned to rain, mitigating the accumulation on city streets. Despite this reprieve, a chilly Monday morning was in the forecast, with wind chill values expected to make it feel as cold as -10 C.

Environment Canada reported that Toronto, Mississauga, and Brampton could expect light flurries and powerful wind gusts reaching up to 60 km/h from Sunday night into early Monday.

Snow Squall Warnings Remain in Effect

The situation was more severe north of the city. Environment Canada maintained snow squall yellow alerts overnight for a wide swath of the province. Communities including Aurora, Richmond Hill, and Barrie were under a watch, with forecasts predicting up to 10 cm of snow.

The alerts extended westward to the Bruce Peninsula and communities along Lake Huron, where some areas had already received close to 60 cm of snow from multiple systems the previous week. A yellow warning was also in place for London, Stratford, and Lambton Shores, where 10-15 cm of snow was expected to fall by morning.

Travel Disruptions and Reduced Visibility

The weather agency warned that travel would be challenging in the affected regions. The snow squalls were expected to cause significantly reduced visibility at times, creating hazardous driving conditions. These yellow alerts are typically issued by Environment Canada when moderate, localized hazardous weather is anticipated to cause disruption or damage.

As the week begins, commuters are advised to exercise caution and check local weather updates before heading out.
