Environment Canada has issued a significant heavy rainfall warning for Ottawa this Monday, forecasting that as much as 40 millimeters of rain could fall on the city by the end of the day. The weather agency projects an additional 10 to 20 millimeters of precipitation on top of the existing totals, bringing the expected accumulation over the past day to between 20 and 40 millimeters.
Continued Rainfall and Saturated Ground Conditions
The rain is anticipated to persist throughout the afternoon on Monday, according to Environment Canada. In its yellow rainfall warning, the agency highlighted that the ground is already near saturation, leaving little capacity to absorb further rainfall. This condition increases the risk of water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas, potentially causing localized flooding and hazardous driving conditions.
Additional Rainfall Expected on Tuesday
Beyond Monday's precipitation, another round of heavy rain may impact the region on Tuesday. Environment Canada's advisories indicate that the wet weather pattern is likely to continue, exacerbating the already challenging situation. Residents are advised to stay informed about updates and take necessary precautions, such as avoiding flooded areas and ensuring proper drainage around properties.
The heavy rainfall warning underscores the importance of monitoring weather forecasts closely, as the persistent rain could lead to disruptions in daily activities and travel. With the ground unable to absorb more water, the risk of infrastructure damage and safety concerns remains elevated.
